There are 5 different methods of searching a crime scene. I have included drawings of these methods to give a good visual of how you might conduct a crime scene search.

| Searchers move parallel to each other & cover the same area twice. Most thorough method |
| Zone Method |

| Area to be searched is divided ino squares & an officer is assigned to each zone |
| Spiral Method |
|
| More effective in a small area. The searcher begins either at the center & moves in a circular path |
| Wheel Method |
|
| Searchers are at the center of the scene & move out in spokelike directions |
| Strip Method |
|
| Used effectively if the area is large & open. Quick & simple & can be performed by one investigator |
